education or leisure activities for children

Some people believe that children’s leisure activities must be educational; otherwise they are a complete waste of time. Do you agree or disagree?
Spending leisure time on education is a controversial debate with its pros and cons. Leisure activities are considered a necessity for children, while education has become a priority for many parents as a distinct possibility of a secure future for their children in this rapidly changing world. Excessive indulgence in this field in my opinion could be to some extent predicament.

On the one hand, some argue that if children work hard at school, their opportunities for going to higher levels of education and getting a good job will be increased. Obviously, children have to be more competitive, and endeavor to make their studies best when they are young if they intend to achieve their desirable goals.

On the other hand, parents who do not let their children spend their free time on leisure activities are misguided. Not only do leisure pursuits not idle (waste) the time, but also can be a prominent part of developing children’s social skills. With some activities such as sports, games and playing with other kids, they learn more about physical co-ordination or vital social lessons like winning and losing. It is inevitable that depriving children of playing could lead them to grow up emotionally immature or unformed.

To sum up, it is essential to know that hobbies and leisure activities are as important as studying for children. If studying hard becomes an obsession for both parents and children, it may end in an immensely destructive consequence such as getting tired of studying and giving it up, which are the last things that parents would want.
