Job Title “Postdoc Fellow/Research Scientist – Mobile Multimedia Solutions”
Duration: 2 years (renewable based on mutual interest) Start date: April-June 2015
Description:
The research scientist will join the Technology Development & Applied Research (TAG) group of QMIC. The group is responsible for conducting applied research and technology development activities in support of QMIC’s innovative solutions targeting different R&D sectors including Intelligent Transportation, Road Safety, Big Data Analytics, Environment, Smart Grids, and Internet of Things.
The scientist will mainly contribute to a two-year NPRP project titled “Scalable Multimedia Content Sharing Solutions for Highly-Dense Mobile Environment” that will start on April 2015. This project aims at designing a complete scalable multimedia multicasting solution for dense wireless environments that use WiFi and WiFi direct as the main technologies for short-range communications and LTE/5G for long-range communications. The findings of the project will be implemented, starting from the first year of the project, in a real test-bed and selected scenarios (for mega-events such as the FIFA world-cup) will be used in the real testing and demonstrations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct applied research and technology development activities in the areas of:
- multicast-based multimedia (cooperative) content sharing
- energy-aware techniques for mobile content sharing
- multicast protocols and techniques in mobile environment
- Wifi-direct and D2D (LTE direct) communications
- etc.
• Implement, test, and demonstrate the proposed methods and techniques in a real-test bed that can be translated into real product.
• Write and publish excellent research papers and file patent applications.
• Help in managing the research project and work closely with external partners of the project.
• Contribute to other QMIC’s initiatives related to intelligent transportation, internet of things, connected vehicles, and big data analytics and interactive visualization.
Qualifications
Education:
• Ph.D. in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
Experience:
• Fresh graduated Ph.D. students with outstanding applied research record during their Ph.D. are accepted.
Research and technical desired skills:
• Very good background in TCP/IP communications • Very strong knowledge of WiFi standards • Excellent hands-on experience: setting up/using real test-bed, using real traces, etc.
• Good background in wireless (cooperative) networking • Previous research experience in topics related to (cooperative) routing/forwarding/content sharing • Experience in project management is desired • Good knowledge of Java or C/C++ programming • Good knowledge of Linux/Unix based operating systems and shell scripting; • Knowledge of the development of Android applications is a good plus
Personal Attributes:
• Very good English communication skills; • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure; • Experience working independently or as part of a team and collaborative environment.
